$9bn Donald Trump ready to reveal just how stinking rich he thinks he is

He may not be able to afford a decent haircut but Donald Trump is about to remind everyone how super fabulously wealthy he is. The celebrity businessman and Republican presidential front-runner is expected to reveal details of his $9bn fortune today. If accurate, it would make Mr Trump, 69, the wealthiest person to ever run for president, far surpassing previous magnates such as Ross Perot, business heirs such as Steve Forbes or private-equity investors such as Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP nominee.

In an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Wednesday, Trump said the personal financial disclosure forms would be filed Wednesday or Thursday. “The numbers will be far in excess of what anybody thought,” he said. “I built a great company.” It is unlikely to end skepticism about his net worth – Forbes Magazine has valued his brand at just $125m. Whatever his worth, Mr Trump still can’t find reliable staff, it seems, after his campaign earlier inadvertently tweeted a promotional photo featuring what appeared to be Nazi soldiers superimposed on the US flag. The gaffe, which Trump’s campaign blamed on an intern, was the latest setback for the TV show host who lost several business deals after making comments about Mexican rapists immigrating to the US.
