Anderson stars as England beat West Indies and take series lead

Inspired by James Anderson’s fiery burst with the second new ball and his brilliance in the field, England beat the West Indies by nine wickets in the Second Test in Grenada. Anderson’s three wickets for 16 in eight overs, allied to his two catches and a sharp, direct hit run out, triggered a stunning West Indies collapse from 202-2 at the start of the day, with a lead of 37, to 307 all out. Chasing 143, Jonathan Trott was out for a duck but skipper Alastair Cooke and Gary Ballance saw England home in 41 overs.

He was the star and it just proves why, in my eyes, he is England’s best bowler of all time.

England skipper Alastair Cook on James Anderson

Balance passed 1,000 runs in his 17th innings, as he finished 81 not out while Cook finished unbeaten on 56. It was England’s first Test win overseas since 2012 and gives them a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Ballance became the third-fastest England player to reach 1,000 runs in the process after being dropped while on 15. Cook had earlier taken a miraculous catch to dismiss Shiv Chanderpaul after Ian Bell had parried the ball while Anderson finished with match figures of six for 90.
