Argentine crash is deadliest incident in reality TV history

The worst accident in the history of reality television claimed 10 lives when two helicopters collided in the rugged mountains of La Rioja province, Argentina, during filming for survivalist reality series, “Dropped”. It was the second fatal incident for production company Adventure Line Productions (ALP). In 2013, a contestant in survival show “Koh-Lanta” died of a heart attack during filming in Cambodia and a doctor on the programme then committed suicide.

What’s hard is to reconcile the image I have of Camille, who was unsinkable, with what happened.

"Dropped" involved eight sports stars being dropped into inhospitable environments for a survival-themed show. Champion sailor Florence Arthaud, Olympic gold medallist swimmer Camille Muffat and Olympic boxer Alexis Vastine were among those killed. Five French TV crew members and two Argentine pilots also died in the crash, a police source said. It is the second helicopter crash in reality TV history: three people died shooting an "untitled military project" for Discovery Channel were killed in February 2013.
