At least five cats have been attacked with acid and left with burns in the space of just a few weeks in an eastern suburb of Paris. Maria, a resident of Bagnolet, told Le Parisien that she had found a cat on the streets at the end of February “panicked and screaming in agony”. Its back was raw and burned through to the bone, while about 50% of its skin appeared to have been burned with acid. Maria took the cat to L'Ecole Du Chat, an organisation that deals with stray felines, whose president said what had happenedwas “a despicable act of pure madness”, adding. She added: “We hope the perpetrator or perpetrators are punished”.
We do not know of others who may have escaped us or may have died without anyone knowing. It must stop.

The cat was taken to vet Sebastien Marti, who was left with no choice but to put down the cat after concluding the lesions were probably caused by an acid spray. A second victim belonged to a boy, aged 11, who contacted the organisation after the disappearance of his cat, Moustache. The brown male tabby was later found, with third-degree burns to 40% of his body and, after two operations, is now recovering from his ordeal. A third victim, a female kitten, was found on 10 March with similar burns and, after being operated on for more than an hour, has now started eating again. The newspaper reports that at least five tortured cats have been found, all in the same neighbourhood, and that there may be more.
