At least four killed in Spain military air crash

At least three crew were killed when a new Airbus A400M aircraft carrying seven to ten Airbus staff crashed near Seville airport Saturday. The A400M – a large, propeller-driven military transport aircraft that is being assembled in Seville – was on a test flight. Spain’s airport authority AENA confirmed that Seville airport had been closed for almost two hours as its fire crews went to attend a plane crash outside its perimeter fence. Three incoming flights to Seville were diverted to Malaga and Jerez airports, AENA said.

We express our deepest sympathy. They were fellow countrymen.

Spain’s prime minister Mariano Rajoy

An industrial estate near where the Airbus came down in the suburb of Carmona has lost electrical power as a result of the crash, AENA says. Spain’s prime minister Mariano Rajoy told local TV stations up to 10 crew members aboard the aircraft were killed, but search and rescue officials told Reuters only seven had been aboard and that three were killed, two seriously injured and two unaccounted for.
