Berlin police seize 386kg of cocaine at supermarket chain Aldi

More than $16 million worth of cocaine turned up Monday in boxes of bananas delivered to Aldi supermarkets in and around Berlin, police said. It is the second time in less than four months that a huge haul of the drug has turned up in boxes of bananas at the discount chain’s stores in the German capital. Staff working at 14 of its supermarkets found the latest stashes of narcotics on Monday tucked inside fruit deliveries from Colombia, which police believe ended up at the stores by accident.

Apparently there was a logistical mistake somewhere along the line

Police spokesman Stefan Redlich

It’s believed to be the biggest seizure of cocaine in Berlin but it was the second time police made such a find in Berlin. In January 2014, police seized around 140 kilograms of cocaine, also in banana boxes at Aldi branches.

We are going to track down the trade route of the bananas and investigate all possible traces.
