Bollywood’s Salman Khan jailed for 5 years for deadly hit-and-run

Salman Khan, one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, was sentenced on Wednesday to five years in prison for drunkenly killing a homeless man with his SUV in a 2002 hit-and-run. Judge D.W. Deshpande told a sessions court in the Indian city of Mumbai that Khan should receive “five years in jail” for the crash the actor had blamed on his driver. Khan looked stunned as the sentence was read out.

Feeling very sad about it, but what to do? I can’t say anything.

Khan has been found guilty of running over five men sleeping on a pavement, killing one, in a hit-and-run case that has dragged through the courts for more than 12 years. A Mumbai court convicted Khan of culpable homicide, saying all charges against him had been proved. Khan also faced charges of negligent driving and causing grievous harm to the victims.
