Boy band guitarist set on fire by flamethrower at London stage show

Australian boy band 5 Seconds of Summer had to cut short a concert at Wembley Arena after one member accidentally burnt himself on stage. Guitarist Michael Clifford (pictured) was injured by pyrotechnics towards the end of the gig on Saturday night. In clips posted on social media he can be seen rushing away from the side of a flamethrower at the front of the stage after his hair caught alight. He grabs a towel and holds it to the side of his face, rushing off stage as the song finishes.

Sorry I couldn’t finish the encore, but at least I look like two face. thanks for worrying every1 x.

After the show, Michael Clifford tweeted a picture of the left side of his face covered with bandages

Drummer Ashton Irwin came out and told fans there would be no encore as a result of his bandmate’s injury, saying: “Michael has hurt himself so we will not be continuing the show right now.” Fellow band member Calum Hood tweeted: “No one ever wants to see your best friend in the state I saw mike backstage. He’s a trooper and is ok.” Luke Hemmings also wrote on Twitter: “Incredible show tonight for the most part, mikes in good spirits :) Glad he’s all good!” The band are due to play the venue again this evening as part of their Rock Out With Your Socks Out tour.

I just want to say thank you so much for coming. He is OK. You guys have been the best crowd we could ever ask for today, thank you so much. Everything is fine. We love you, thank you.
