British man held over Hong Kong double homicide

A British man has been arrested after the bodies of two women were found at an apartment in the Wan Chai district of Hong Kong. Local media said the women, who were aged between 25 and 30 and of Asian or South East Asian origin, were believed to be “sex workers”. The first victim was found unconscious with wounds to her neck and buttocks, and pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was found inside a suitcase on the balcony and “had been dead for some time,” police said. She had also sustained neck injuries.

Officers responded to the scene in the early hours of Sunday morning and later seized a knife and arrested a 29-year-old British man, named by local media as Rurik Jutting, reportedly a Cambridge graduate and an employee at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. They also found a small amount of cocaine in the flat. “Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the causes of death of the deceased,” police said.
