Brussels attack: Airport to remain closed as security measures are stepped up

Brussels airport will stay closed until Tuesday as it brings in new security measures and repairs the departure hall wrecked by the suicide bomb attackers, it was announced on Saturday. Zaventem airport said the security changes were being introduced at the request of the federal government but did not specify what they were. The Easter weekend is normally one of the busiest of the year, with thousands of holidaymakers jetting off to destinations worldwide. But airport security came under close security in the wake of Tuesday’s bombing, amid claims there were no systematic checks on passengers entering the departure hall.

Security remains tight in the city in the wake of the attacks on the airport and a metro station which killed 31 people. Singer Mariah Carey has cancelled a concert in the city on Sunday - the night of her 46th birthday - over safety concerns. Meanwhile, U.S. president Barack Obama has offered his prayers for the families of the two Americans killed in the bombings in Brussels and telling Belgians that “America has their back” in the fight against terrorism. In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama is renewing his vow to continue the campaign against the Islamic State, which took credit for the attacks. He says U.S. officials are working with allies to root out the group’s operations in Europe.

I hope to see you soon and send my prayers and eternal love, laughter and light.
