Chilling adventure: Quebec man becomes first to reach South Pole by kite ski

Frederic Dion can brag about one thing no one else can: Being the first person to reach the geographic South Pole by kite ski. CTV reports Dion arrived at the world’s most southern point Wednesday on skis, using a kite to pull him in whichever direction he wanted. Dion, 37, has travelled more than 3,000 kilometres from the Antarctic coast, where his journey began, in November. It wasn’t easy for Dion who faced his share of challenges including a burning tent, winds of 150 km/h and chilling -50 C temperatures. Next for Dion is the Hercules Inlet, another 1,130 kilometres away, as he continues in his attempt to beat the 82-day record of crossing through Antarctica through its centre.
