Daughter sees ‘very large shark’ kill father as they dived for scallops

A daughter watched her father being killed by a large shark while the pair were diving off the Australian island state of Tasmania. The woman witnessed the attack after diving beneath the surface amid concerns her father, in his 40s, had not surfaced, police said. The pair had been diving for scallops, with a boat, near Maria Island, off the east coast of Tasmania. The attack happened near where a 15ft great white shark was seen on Friday, government ranger Peter Lingard told The Examiner newspaper.

She saw a very large shark; she saw her father being attacked by the shark.

Saturday’s attack came as Australian surfer Mick Fanning made his first return to the water since he fought off a large shark in South Africa . The three-time world champion went surfing alone at his hometown of Tweed Heads, 430 miles north of Sydney. "First surf back. Feels so good,“ Fanning wrote under a silhouetted photo of himself looking out to the ocean, which he posted on Instagram.
