Former Republican candidate Ben Carson has endorsed one-time rival Donald Trump, boosting the tycoon ahead of what could be the decisive week in the race for the party’s presidential nomination. The retired neurosurgeon joined Mr Trump in a news conference on Friday morning at the real estate tycoon’s Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida. Mr Carson said: “I’ve come to know Donald Trump over the last few years. He is actually a very intelligent man who cares deeply about America.” Earlier in the campaign the pair had been bitter rivals, trading deeply personal allegations but Mr Trump shrugged it off on Friday, saying: "It’s a tough business, politics.“
There’s two different Donald Trumps. There’s the one you see on the stage and there’s the one who’s very cerebral.

Earlier, the four remaining Republican presidential candidates used the latest TV debate to calmly discuss their policies — a striking turnaround from the shouted insults of their previous few match-ups. With just days until make-or-break voting in the home states of two candidates, front-runner Donald Trump’s opponents may be more desperate than ever but they didn’t let it show. The tone was so sedate that Trump exclaimed, "So far I cannot believe how civil it has been up here!” The next crucial vote comes on Tuesday in Florida, where one poll shows Mr Trump has a 20% lead.
