Delays and fifth of flights cancelled as air traffic controllers go on strike

Dozens of flights are being cancelled in and out France over the next three days because of industrial action by traffic controllers. Delays are being reported by at least six airports. Marseille airport is the worst affected but the other sites experiencing problems include Toulouse, Bordeaux, Orly, Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle and Lyon and Nice. There is also disruption to flights not taking off or landing in France, but using French air space. Some planes are being re-routed.

We have been pro-actively informing affected customers, so they have the opportunity to reorganise their journeys.

Air traffic controllers are protesting against a cap on recruitment and lack of investment in the systems used by workers. The air transport authority asked airlines to reduce their flights by a fifth on Sunday and Monday. In Britain, passengers travelling to France from Gatwick, Heathrow and Luton airports are being told to expect delays or cancellations to their journeys. EasyJet said 82 of its Sunday flights were cancelled.
