Emotional plea of little Aylan’s aunt: Please don’t let any more children die

The aunt of drowned refugee boy Alyan Kurdi has made a impassioned plea for the world to pull together to resolve the migrant crisis. Tima Kurdi, whose sister-in-law Rehan died with her nephews, three-year-old Alyan, and Galip, five, as they tried to cross the sea to Greece on a flimsy dinghy, said it was time to end the suffering. She said: “It is now close to home in the West and it’s clear that people want action by their leaders. People are dying because they can’t get basic human essentials, are afraid for their lives and are fleeing to countries they hope will open their borders. Please let’s use our collective voices to make change and demand that our world leaders take action now to pass emergency refugee measures.”

Let’s put an end to this suffering. Our hearts have been broken.

Heart-breaking photos of Aylan’s body face down in the surf and being carried away by rescue workers have stirred the world’s conscience over the plight of hundreds of thousands migrants fleeing war zones. Ms Kurdi, a hairdresser who has lived in Vancouver for 20 years, said her brother, Abdullah, and his family only risked the dangerous sea crossing to Europe because they were refused the right to move to Canada. Pleading with the authorities in Canada to improve its asylum process, she said: "When Abdullah learned about our brother’s rejected Canadian application, it became clear he also had to find a way to reach Western Europe. There was no hope of collecting the appropriate paperwork for his family to be successful with an entry to Canada. It is too late to save Abdullah’s family.“

I just want to sit next to the grave of my children and my wife and rest
