Roger Federer’s season of resurgence took another thrilling turn on Friday night when he won a three-tiebreaker semi-final against Nick Kyrgios at the Miami Open. Federer failed to convert two match points in the second-set tiebreaker but finished off the flashy, unpredictable Kyrgios an hour later, 7-6 (9), 6-7 (9), 7-6 (5). The 35-year-old Swiss will now face his 37th career showdown against his great rival, Rafael Nadal, in Sunday’s final. The 30-year-old Spaniard beat Italy’s Fabio Fognini 6-1 7-5 in the first semi-final.
It’s great winning this way. It could have gone either way.
