Five people found dead after mass shooting in Switzerland

Five people have died following a shooting in the Swiss state of Aargau, local police have said. Officers were called to the northern town of Würenlingen after gunshots were heard shortly after 11pm on Saturday night. Three bodies were reportedly discovered outside the home and at least two were found inside the property. One witness told local media they heard three gunshots over the space of 20 minutes - but another heard four shots fired in quick succession, followed by a further two shots after a brief pause.

An exceptionally terrible crime, atypical for such a tranquil residential area.

Police spokesman Bernard Graser

Upon arrival, “several” bodies were found lying outside a house, as well as inside the building. Ambulance workers have been unable to give a cause of death. According to a police spokesman, speaking to local radio, the shooter is also thought to be among the dead found at the scene. Investigators are working to identify the victims - as well as a possible motive. Würenlingen, which is northwest of Zurich, is home to a community of about 4,500 people.
