German police said they had detained a man who attacked five people at Duesseldorf central train station with an axe on Thursday. A police spokesman said one of those attacked was seriously injured. He said that authorities were investigating whether more attackers had been involved but had no indication of that, adding that there was no serious threat of further attacks. German authorities have been on the alert for terrorism, especially since an attack claimed by the Islamic State group in December when a hijacked truck ploughed into a Berlin Christmas market, killing 12 people.
