Four killed as balcony collapses during student housewarming party

Four students died and 14 others were injured after a balcony collapse in the French city of Angers. The victims were at a housewarming party when the third-floor balcony collapsed, causing two balconies below it to fall to the ground. At least one of the injured was said to be in a serious condition in hospital. More than 70 firefighters were at the scene, while the duty manager at the city’s university hospital, Michel Pichon, said the injured people “were about 20 years old, certainly students”. It is believed the apartment block - which is located in the city centre - has only recently been built.
