George Clooney set to appear in special ‘Downton Abbey’ episode

George Clooney is to make a cameo appearance in the hit television series “Downton Abbey” for a charity sketch. The Hollywood star, who is due to marry his British fiancee Amal Alamuddin in Venice this month, will appear in the one-off special that will be broadcast at Christmas and was written to raise money for a charity fundraiser, called Text Santa for ITV. The actor has previously worked with “Downton” star Hugh Bonneville—who plays Lord Robert Crawley—on the film “The Monument Men.”

All the plans have been shrouded in secrecy because George was determined for his role not to leak out.

The Oscar-winner was spotted at Highclere Castle, the location where the series is filmed, earlier this year with Alamuddin. An ITV spokeswoman told Sky News Clooney’s appearance will feature in a “Downton Abbey” sketch that will be part of the charity extravaganza Text Santa to be screened later this year. The other actors appearing alongside him and the storyline are being kept under wraps. Clooney, 53, has landed Academy Awards for best supporting actor in “Syriana” and producer of “Argo,” which was named 2012’s best film.
