Zac Efron has been confirmed to star opposite Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in a big screen version of Baywatch. The news was announced by Johnson on his Twitter page where he also said that the film will be rated R in the US. Johnson, a former WWE wrestler who is no stranger to showing off his muscles, confirmed that the beach drama was making a comeback in October last year. He tweeted that the film would be “edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as all hell. Cue slo mo running on the beach … #WhoNeedsMouthToMouth #RedShortsBeHugginABrotha”.

BIG NEWS: Welcoming my dude @ZacEfron to #BAYWATCH. Our movie will be big, fun and RATED R. Like me when I drink.

The film will be directed by Horrible Bosses creator Seth Gordon and shooting is due to begin in early 2016. Efron has become a big box office star with films such as Neighbours and the upcoming We Are Your Friends. It is not known who else will star in the movie but David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, who starred in the TV series in the 1990s, are not expected to join the cast.
