Grandmothers have been unwittingly sending posts to loved ones on Facebook from one of the biggest stars in the world of hip hop. The social media site’s autocomplete feature has resulted in numerous grandmas accidently sending messages from Grandmaster Flash. When a woman with grandchildren starts to sign off her post with g-r-a-n-d-m-a, the site automatically fills in the name of the one of pioneers of DJing. Dozens of examples of mistagged posts have been appeared on a tumblr blog called grandpaandgrandmasterflash.
It’s true I get lots of posts from Grandmas. Hilarious, now I know why! Respect Grandma and Grandpa. This is Hip Hop!

In many cases the baffled grandmothers have been forced to explain to their friends and relatives why they wrote the wrong name. Some of those who received the mistagged messages have commented that they thought it made their grandmother seem more “cool”. Barbados-born Grandmaster Flash grew up in New York’s The Bronx and is regarded as developing some of hip hop DJing’s most recognisable techniques. The star, who had huge hits in the early 1980s with The Message and The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel, has acknowledged the problem.
