Hello Kitty and Minnie Mouse released on bail after brawl in Times Square

Hello Kitty and Minnie Mouse have been released from prison following a fight in New York’s Times Square – the latest fracas involving the costumed characters who pose for photos with tourists. Jiovanna Melendez, 40, who was dressed as Hello Kitty, and Sandra Mocha, 34, in costume as Minnie Mouse, fought over tip money on Thursday afternoon, police told the city tabloids. Melendez, of New Jersey, suffered a cut lip, while Mocha, of Queens, had a facial abrasion, according to the New York Post.

This is another reason why we need regulations to address the growing problems in Times Square.

Fists flew in the middle of the Crossroads of the World after the duo posed for a photo with a passerby and Hello Kitty refused to split the tip with Minnie, reports the Post. Melendez and Mocha each reportedly face assault and harassment charges. The costumed characters formed an association last year to protect their image after a spate of arrests following violent altercations.
