Horror at the school gates: Ten Chinese children wounded by knifeman

A man has stabbed 10 children outside the gates of a school in China, severely injuring two, before killing himself. Six boys and four girls were attacked in the assault outside an elementary school in the city of Haikou, on the southern island province of Hainan, state broadcaster China Central Television reported. The youngsters were taken to hospital where two were described as in a serious condition. None sustained life-threatening injuries.

The pupils were lining up at the school gates before being allowed out at lunchtime when the man approached them, according to reports. The children were all aged around eight. The man was seen lying in a lane near the school, unconscious, in the wake of the attack, and it is believed he had taken his own life.

I thought my child would be safe at school. I didn’t think something like this would happen.
