IKEA store stabbing in Sweden leaves two dead

Two people have been stabbed to death at an IKEA store in a town west of Stockholm, Swedish police say. A third person, a 35-year-old man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, the SVT public broadcaster said. A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Police said they received a call reporting injuries at the store at around 1pm Monday.

We found a man and a woman who had knife injuries and who later died of their wounds.

Police statement

The newspapers Aftonbladet and Expressen said a large police operation took place at the store in Vasteras, about an hour west of the Swedish capital, after the incident. Police in bullet-proof vests and ambulances rushed to the scene, according to witnesses, and the store was closed off. IKEA confirmed the “tragic incident” in a statement, saying the entire Erikslund shopping centre where the store is located has also been closed. “Police are investigating at the site. At this time, our thoughts go to the victims and their families,” the statement said.
