In an auction room far, far away: ‘Slave Leia’ bikini sells for $96,000

It was the focal point of many a teenage boy’s fantasy - and most would never have been able to afford it, it appears. The iconic golden “salve Leia” bikini worn by Carrie Fisher in Return of The Jedi has been sold at auction for a whopping $96,000. The unknown bidder also took home a letter of authenticity from designer Richard Miller, who worked for George Lucas’ Industrial Light and Magic, to prove the costume is the real deal. Fisher wore the scanty outfit in the third instalment of the Star Wars saga in 1983 when Princess Leia was held captive by Han Solo’s arch enemy, Jabba The Hut.

…what supermodels will eventually wear in the seventh ring of hell.

How Carrie Fisher remembers the “slave Leia” costume

The outfit was just one of more than 50 items of Star Wars memorabilia being sold at Californian auction house Profiles in History during the online auction. Other movie memorabilia up for sale included the harpoon, yellow barrels and machete used in Jaws by Robert Shaw, Harrison Ford’s fedora and whip from Raiders Of The Lost Ark, The Fonz’s leather jacket from Happy Days, one of the jumpsuits worn by Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad, and a blue top worn by Leonard Nimoy on Star Trek.
