IS propaganda video said to show British journalist, tease future ‘programmes’

A British journalist identified as John Cantlie has purportedly appeared as a captive of the Islamic State in a video posted by the organisation’s supporters online. In the new three-minute video, the man identified as Cantlie appears in good health and promises to “convey some facts” in a series of “programmes,” suggesting that there will be further instalments. Cantlie added that other Western governments have negotiated for the release of their hostages but that the British and U.S. governments chose to do things differently. The British government declined to comment on the video.

On Saturday, IS released a video showing the beheading of British aid worker David Haines. A black-clad man in the video said another hostage, identified as Alan Henning, would be killed if British Prime Minister David Cameron continued to support the fight against IS. Thursday’s video made no mention of Henning.
