Jewish man shot dead after scuffle with Israeli soldiers over ID card

A Jewish man was shot and killed in a scuffle with Israeli soldiers who suspected he was a Palestinian attacker. The victim shouted “I’m IS” and attempted to seize one of the soldiers’ weapons after being asked to show his ID in Jerusalem. He was shot when a private security officer nearby opened fire and died later of his wounds. It later emerged that the man was a 28-year-old Jewish resident of Jerusalem.

The soldiers had high suspicions that he was a terrorist

The shooting came as prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in Germany for talks with U.S. secretary of state John Kerry on how to restore calm. Mr Kerry is to meet Palestinians this weekend following weeks of escalating violence, stabbings and tit-for-tat attacks. Also on Thursday, two Palestinians were shot by police as they stabbed an Israeli at a bus stop after trying to board a bus ferrying children to school. One of the men died later while the other was seriously wounded. Also, police have put up concrete barriers and checkpoints at the entrances to Arab areas of east Jerusalem, where many of the attackers are from.

This is not the Wild West. The suspicion there is now, the fear and the hate lead to brutal and very difficult results.
