Kim Kardashian West sues website for saying she faked Paris jewel robbery

Kim Kardashian West is suing a celebrity gossip website for claiming she staged an armed robbery in Paris to cheat her insurers out of millions of dollars. The reality star’s defamation lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and was filed in New York against MediaTakeOut.com and its founder, Fred Mwangaguhunga. Court papers said the 35-year-old “returned to the United States only to again be victimised, but this time by an online gossip tabloid that published a series of articles in early October 2016 referring to her a liar and thief”. The website refused to publish a retraction and an apology, it added.

Defendants’ malicious publication of the articles, which paint the victim of a serious crime as a criminal herself, is libellous

Police say armed robbers forced their way into a private residence where Kardashian West was staying in Paris last week, tied her up and stole $10 million worth of jewellery. No arrests have been made. The 35-year-old, who has two children with husband rapper Kanye West, flew back to the US hours after the attack, after being questioned by police. Meanwhile, her sister, Khloe, has called it a “wake-up call” to the family, who chronicle almost every aspect of their lives on TV and social media. During an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, she said her sister was “not doing that well” and the family was going to “to pull back a little bit”.
