Lady Gaga releases video to highlight the victims of campus rape

Lady Gaga has released a graphic video about sex assaults on university campuses to accompany her new single. The American singer shared the five-minute clip for Til It Happens To You on social media. The video shows harrowing scenes of women being attacked, including two girls being drugged and assaulted at a college party. Lady Gaga dedicated it to victims of sexual assault all over the world.

We hope u feel our love&solidarity through the song & perhaps find some peace in knowing u r not alone through this film #TilItHappensToYou.

Earlier this year the star wrote an open letter, alongside New York governor Andrew Cuomo, to address the “epidemic of sexual violence” on campuses. Last year the 29-year-old told radio host Howard Stern she was sexually assaulted by a producer 20 years older than her when she was 19. Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the first Twilight film, made the video and the song was co-written with Canadian songwriter Diane Warren. The track originally featured in a documentary about campus rape released earlier this year called The Hunting Ground.

One in five college women will be sexually assaulted this year unless something changes.
