Malaysia Floods: PM pledges exra funds, number of victims drop

Flooding in Malaysia and Thailand has killed 24 people and left nearly 160,000 homeless since mid-December, in the deadliest regional flood season in a decade. Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak announced an extra $142m to help victims of the country’s worst flooding in decades, BBC News reported. Najib was criticized for his absence during the calamity, after being photographed playing golf with President Barack Obama.

I don’t think Najib’s 500 million ringgit money is enough. There are just too many victims. The conditions in the relief centre are very dirty with rubbish not collected, and it is infested with mosquitoes.

The death total includes 10 in Malaysia and 14 in Southern Thailand. Heavy rain and high winds is expected on the eastern side of Pahang and Johor tomorrow caused by a sudden cold surge. A Malaysia Meteorological Department spokesman said the cold surge is expected to reach the South China Sea Dec 29, activating the vortex on the eastern side of Johor.
