Sir Paul McCartney has not had a UK number one single in decades but that has not stopped him topping the only chart that counts - the top 40 musical millionaires. The former Beatle (pictured) has a personal fortune of £730 million ($1.09 billion) - $30 million up from last year - and is well ahead of his nearest rival Andrew Lloyd Webber, who is estimated to be worth $977 million. Sir Paul’s fortune is given a significant boost by his wife Nancy Shevell, who has a $225 million stake in her family’s U.S. trucking business.
The best things in life are free But you can keep them for the birds and bees Now give me money
Lyrics from The Beatles song “Money”
Irish rockers U2 share a $647 million fortune, with Sir Elton John and Sir Mick Jagger said to be worth $405 million and $338 million respectively. The chart, put together for The Sunday Times Rich List, shows Sir Mick’s bandmate and songwriting partner Keith Richards as being worth $315 million while Sir Paul’s fellow Beatle Ringo Starr is estimated to have a fortune worth $270 million. The full Rich List, a 128-page guide to the 1,000 richest people in the UK and 250 wealthiest in Ireland, is published on Sunday.
