Mother and ‘boyfriend’ tortured and hanged from tree for having an affair

A mother and her alleged boyfriend have been murdered after they were accused of having a family. Khalida Bibi, a married mother-of-three in her late 20s, and Mohammad Mukhtar, thought to be 19, were tortured and hanged from a tree in the courtyard of the family home in a village in Pakistan. Her father, husband and brother were arrested and, according to police, have confessed to the killing. They were said to have told officers they were angry after catching them on a date.

Hundreds of women are murdered every year in Pakistan, often by their own relatives, for going against their families’ wishes in matters of love and marriage. The latest killings happened in the village of Mian Channu, in eastern Punjab. The victims’ bodies have been take to hospital for a post-mortem examination. It came weeks after police arrested the father and ex-husband of a British woman Samia Shahid on suspicion of her murder.
