Mt Kinabalu nudists to be charged with indecent exposure

Four foreigners who posed naked on Mount Kinabalu will be charged in a Malaysian court today. They have been identified as two Canadian siblings, a Dutch national, and a British woman. Sabah Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chief Datuk Salehhudin Abdul Rahman said investigation papers on the four individuals were completed and had been submitted to the public prosecutor. They will be charged under Section 294 (a) of the Penal Code for indecent exposure.

We detained all four of them on Tuesday… and yes we are still searching for the other six tourists, and we will catch them.

On May 30, a group of 10 foreigners stripped naked in the open on the summit of Mount Kinabalu. The group also allegedly urinated on the mountain. Mount Kinabalu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and popular climbing destination, is considered sacred by Malaysia’s Kadazan Dusun tribal group, who believe it is a resting place for spirits. The incident has angered Sabah people, who also voiced out their disappointment against the climbers for not respecting local culture. Sabah Deputy Chief Minister and Huguon Siou (paramount leader of the Kadazandusun) Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan even blamed the tourists’ striptease for a deadly earthquake last week.
