Police say they are closing on two violent criminals who staged a daring escape from jail after a third prisoner handed himself in. Officers say they believe fugitives, Jonathan Tieu, 20, and 37-year-old Hossein Nayeri, are in San Jose, California. They were tipped off by accomplice Bac Duong, who surrendered 400 miles farther south in Santa Ana. The 40-year-old turned up at an electrical shop run by a friend, where he smoked a cigarette as he waited for police to arrest him.
If they are watching, we want them to understand that we are pressing forward, and we are coming after them

The three men abseiled four storeys to freedom from the roof of a prison in Santa Ana using a rope made of bed sheets, after slicing through steel bars, climbing into plumbing tunnels and cutting razor wire. But on Friday Duong, who faces an attempted murder charge, turned up at a shop a few miles from the jail, saying he wanted to give himself up. "He was scared for his life, pretty much,“ said Lee Tran, whose family runs the shop. "That’s why he asked one of our people to turn him in." Nayeri was in jail, accused of kidnapping a man and cutting off his penis to find out where he had hidden money. Tieu was held on charges including murder and attempted murder.
