Oregon students return to campus after deadly shooting

Students still shaken from the deadly mass shooting at an Oregon community college days ago were greeted on campus Monday by grief counselors, comfort dogs and words of encouragement from faculty, but classes remained canceled through the week. On Friday, President Obama, who spoke out forcefully in favor of stricter gun control measures after the massacre, plans to visit Roseburg, Ore., on Friday to meet privately with families of the victims.

I’m going through the grieving process myself because this has touched everyone in the community. If you don’t know someone that goes here, you know someone that knows someone.

Gunman Christopher Harper-Mercer, 26, who killed nine people at Umpqua Community College before taking his own life, ranted in writings he left behind about not having a girlfriend and thinking everyone else was crazy, a law enforcement official said Monday. The official also said the mother of Harper-Mercer has told investigators that he was struggling with mental health issues.
