Playboy mansion for sale for $200m – and you get Hugh Hefner for free!

Hugh Hefner’s iconic Los Angeles mansion is going on sale for $200m - and you get the Playboy boss thrown in for free! As part of the sale, 89-year-old Hefner must be allowed to continue living there, according to company spokesman John Vlautin. If it makes the asking price, it will be one of the highest ever for a private residence in the US. The Gothic Tudor-style mansion, which boasts 29 rooms and stands in five acres of land in Holmby Hills, is home to the infamous Playboy grotto.

The Playboy Mansion has been a creative centre for Hef as his residence and workplace for the past 40 years, as it will continue to be if the property is sold.

The nearly 20,000 sq ft property has been the setting for some of the Playboy founder’s most lavish parties, as well as film shoots. Playboy chief executive Scott Flanders said the sale of the property - which was built in 1927 and bought by Playboy for a reported $1.1m in 1971 - would help the company “reinvest in the transformation of our business”. In October, it announced that it would stop running photos of completely naked women in its US print edition. That move followed a decision in August 2014 to ban full nudity on its website.
