Policeman killed and second badly wounded in shooting in San Diego

One policeman died and another was seriously injured in the latest law enforcement shooting to rock the U.S. The officers were shot in a San Diego neighborhood and a Hispanic male suspect was in custody after also being shot and wounded. The wounded officer was in hospital but was expected to survive. “It is with a very sad heart that we announce the death of one of our officers tonight. Pray for his family,” the San Diego police department tweeted. The officer who died was married with two children. “You can imagine early in the morning when a chief knocks on the door of a family member,” the city’s police chief Shelley Zimmerman said.

Just left the hospital where our second officer has just come out of surgery. He is expected to survive!!

The officers were shot during a traffic stop late on Thursday evening in south-east of city. After they called for back-up, other officers arrived on the scene to find they had both been shot. Police urged residents to stay indoors while they searched for suspects. “The investigation is ongoing right now as to exactly what happened,” police chief Zimmerman said. “We don’t have enough information at this point.” The shooting comes as police departments around the country remain on full alert after the killing of officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, earlier this month.
