Real-life Newman ‘hoarded more than 40,000 pieces of mail’

A postman has been accused of failing to deliver more than 40,000 pieces of mail, some dating to 2005. Joseph Brucato, 67, allegedly hoarded the mail at his New York home, car and post office locker. Authorities say about 1,134 kg of mail postmarked as far back as 2005 was recovered.

Abstain from excessive alcohol consumption.

As a condition of his release pending a court hearing, Brucato was ordered to avoid heavy drinking

Brucato was arrested after a supervisor allegedly noticed undelivered mail piled up inside the defendant’s personal vehicle. Brucato’s lawyer said his client suffered from depression. The postman’s route included businesses and residences in Brooklyn’s Flatbush section.
