Rolling Stones play surprise LA Sticky Fingers show - at $5 a ticket

The Rolling Stones have played a surprise warm up concert for just 1,200 fans in Hollywood ahead of their North America tour. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts performed every song from the 1971 Sticky Fingers album, which is being re-released to tie-in with the tour. Hits on the album include Wild Horses and Brown Sugar. The last minute show was announced on Twitter and the band’s website, which said only that a “Los Angeles Club Show” would be held in the 90028 zip code. Tickets, costing $5, sold out fast. Actor Bruce Willis and One Direction star Harry Styles were spotted in the audience at the Fonda Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

Tonight we’re doing something we’ve never done before … We’re going to do the whole of Sticky Fingers.

As well as playing the whole album, the band also performed Rock Me Baby in tribute to BB King who died on 14 May. "They’re the original and the best. They’ve never changed. They keep doing things fresh and new. And keep doing small shows like this for the fans as well as the big stadiums. It’s important,“ said one concert goer. The Zip Code tour starts in San Diego on 24 May and then heads east, making stops in cities including Minneapolis, Atlanta, Detroit and Buffalo. It will conclude on 15 July in Quebec. The Rolling Stones last performed across North America for their A Bigger Bang Tour between 2005 and 2007.
