Second member of popular K-Pop group dies following car crash

A second member of the South Korean group Ladies’ Code has died of her injuries after the van the band was travelling in crashed on Wednesday. Kwon Ri-sae, 23, died Sunday morning at a hospital in Suwon. Go Eun-bi, 21, died shortly after their vehicle crashed into a guard rail on a rain-drenched highway near Seoul. A third member of the band suffered a fractured jaw, and two others escaped with minor injuries. Kwon had been unconscious after undergoing hours of emergency brain surgery, according to agency Polaris Entertainment spokeswoman Kim Eun-kyung.

We are investigating the exact cause of the accident. But it’s difficult because the highway section where the crash occurred did not have a closed-circuit television camera.

Lee Ho-dong, police inspector

Police suspect that the van driver may have been speeding on the wet road to meet a tight schedule. The National Forensic Service is currently investigating the accident. Inspector Lee Ho-dong said the police will call in the driver, who was treated for a mild injury, for more questioning. Ladies’ Code debuted last year and won Best New Artist at the Gaon Music Awards this year. The girls also had their own reality TV show.
