Star Wars stuntwoman in coma after high-speed motorcycle crash on set

A stuntwoman who features in the new Star Wars movie is “fighting hard” after being seriously hurt during a high-speed motorbike crash. Olivia Jackson has been placed in an induced coma after suffering severe head injuries and a punctured lung. The 32-year-old, who was not wearing any protective gear when she collided with a metal camera arm on the set of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter in South Africa, has her stuntman husband, David Grant, at her bedside. He said: “She’s my inspiration and my world and one tough little mother******. She’s fighting hard and the team of people working on Olive have been amazing.”

I whisper to her everyday telling her about the support she’s getting worldwide.

A source who was on the film set at the time said that the metal camera arm “malfunctioned and didn’t lift up” – meaning the accident was “totally out of her control”. As well as performing stunts in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Ms Jackson, who lives in Buckinghamshire, England, has also gained credits for other high-profile films. This year, the South African-born performer was Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s stunt double in Mad Max: Fury Road, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s double in Mortdecai.
