Step down Sepp: FA boss Dyke insists ‘nobody trusts FIFA with Blatter in charge’

The head of English football has called for Sepp Blatter to step down as FIFA President in a bid to restore the damaged image of the game. Football Association Greg Dyke said there is “no way of rebuilding trust in FIFA” while Blatter remains in the top job following yesterday’s arrests of nine FIFA officials for alleged bribery and corruption. Blatter has insisted he will stay on and contest tomorrow’s presidential election in Zurich but Dyke last night insisted:  "Blatter has put out a statement saying now is the time to start rebuilding the trust in FIFA. There is no way of rebuilding trust in FIFA while Sepp Blatter is still there.“ Blatter, 79, has been head of world football for 17 years and is against Prince Ali Bin al-Hussein in tomorrow’s vote.

Sepp Blatter has to go. He either has to go through a resignation, or he has to be out-voted or we have to find a third way.

Dyke added: "I think the time has come where the damage this has done to FIFA is so great that it can’t be rebuilt while Blatter is there so UEFA has got to try to force him out.” Former England skipper Gary Lineker - now a BBC TV football pundit - joined the call for Blatter to go. He told the Daily Mirror: “If any other organisation on the planet was found to be as corrupt as FIFA, then the man at the top would go. But Blatter has his own fiefdom and he seems immune to it." FIFA has suspended 11 people from all football-related activities following a U.S. criminal investigation into corruption while iIn a separate development, the Swiss attorney general has opened criminal proceedings over the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

I think the time has come where the damage this has done to FIFA is so great that it can’t be re-built while Blatter is there so UEFA has got to try to force him out.
