Tennis player Eugenie Bouchard was as good as her word when she went on a blind date with a man who challenged her to go out with him if the New England Patriots won the Super Bowl. Bouchard, 22, and student John Goehrke went to an NBA match in New York last night. The world number 44, who had just completed a swimsuit photoshoot for Sports Illustrated magazine, tweeted pictures through the evening, suggesting things were bouncing along well.
I didn’t really expect her to agree to it so when she contacted me and all the plans started falling into place, I was surprised.
Bouchard had tweeted that the Atlanta Falcons were sure to win this month’s Super Bowl as they led the Patriots 21-0 early in the game. Goehrke saw his big chance and responded: “If Patriots win we go on a date?” Bouchard replied: “Sure.” Little did she suspect the Pats would pull off one of sport’s greatest comebacks, recovering from 28-3 with a little over a quarter to play to win 34-28 in overtime.
