In his job, President Barack Obama gets to meet all sorts of people, from all walks of life. But few can have left such an impression on the leader of the free world than 106-year-old Virginia McLaurin. The grand old lady from South Carolina literally danced with delight as she fulfilled a dream to meet the president and First Lady Michelle in the Oval Office at the White House. Such was her enthusiasm that Mr Obama was heard asking her to “slow down” as she danced a jig across the carpet.
I want to be like you when I grow up.

She told them: “I thought I would never live to get in the White House. And I tell you I am so happy. A black President. A black wife.” Michelle tells her: “You have just made our day.” Ms McLaurin was born in 1909 and had filed a White House petition to meet the President. She was invited in as part of Black History Month, when Mr Obama is meeting African Americans who have shaped the country’s history.
