We can hit U.S. bases, says elated Kim Jong-un after latest missile tests

Kim Jong-Un claims North Korea can strike US military bases across the Pacific following its latest missile tests. A clearly elated leader was seen watching the tests and celebrating with military officials in images released by the secretive state. In one photograph he could be seen hugging an official, while in another he appeared to be almost dancing with delight surrounded by his top guns. He was also quoted as saying the tests, one of which failed, were a “great event”.

The first launch failed over the Sea of Japan, according to South Korean and US officials. A second missile was test-fired hours later in the direction of Japan and reached a high altitude before it fell into the sea about 250 miles away. On Thursday, Japanese officials began to examine the suspected nose cone of a rocket that washed up on a beach in the west of the country. The pockmarked 75 kg (165 lb) part, almost 2m long and over 1m wide, lay on a blanket and blue tarpaulin in a forecourt at the ministry of defence. “We will analyse the materials and the level of technology used,” an official said.
