We’re fighting back: Paris cafe where five died in terror attacks reopens

A cafe where five people were killed by a squad of Islamic extremist gunmen terrorising central Paris has reopened. La Bonne Biere, a corner cafe in the trendy central district targeted by the gunmen, opened for business again on Friday morning. Since November 13, the shuttered cafe has been piled high with flowers, like the other sites of the attacks which left 130 people dead. A banner above the entrance reads “Je suis en terrasse” - I am on the terrace - a popular message of defiance from Parisians in the wake of the atrocities.

The Bonne Biere cafe was a place where people meet and exchanged and shared. That is what we want it to be again today.

Manager Audrey Bily

The cafe became the first to re-open in Paris after what its managers called the “nightmare”. Standing outside the bar, manager Audrey Bily told reporters: "I would like to thank everyone who has supported us for your poems, your messages and posts that have so helped us. What are we going to do to start again, to bounce back?“ Meanwhile, France has issued a step-by-step guide on "how to react in the event of a terrorist attack.” Posted on the government’s website on Friday, the guide has three-step instructions informing citizens they should “escape, hide, alert” in the face of danger.

It’s time they open and that we continue life as it was before.
