Whose honour? Economist Thomas Piketty rejects France’s highest award

France’s influential economist Thomas Piketty, author of “Capital in the 21st Century,” on Thursday refused to accept the nation’s highest award, the Legion d’honneur, in protest of country’s Socialist government. Piketty, who was once close to the Socialist Party but has distanced himself from the policies of President Francois Hollande, refused the award, saying that it is not not the role of the government to “decide who is honourable.”

They would do better to concentrate on reviving (economic) growth in France and Europe.
