‘You have 50 hours’: Johnny Depp’s dogs face death in Australia

Australia’s farm minister has given film star Johnny Depp two days to send his pet dogs - Pistol and Boo - home to the United States so they can go through quarantine on their return, or face having them put down. Depp, 51, is in Australia to film the fifth of his blockbuster Pirates movies, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”. Last month, he and his wife Amber Heard flew in his Yorkshire terriers, Pistol and Boo, on his private jet, without declaring them to customs. Australia has strict animal quarantine laws to keep disease at bay, which Depp appears to have ignored. Joyce said he became aware that Depp had the dogs with him after they were spotted being taken to a groomer.

It’s time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States. He can send them back or we will have to euthanase them.

Filming of the latest installment of the $3.7-billion box office franchise started in February but was interrupted a month later, when Depp flew back to the United States for treatment of a hand injury. Asked if his tough stance may affect Depp’s view of him, Joyce replied: “I don’t think Mr Depp will be inviting me to the grand opening of the Pirates of the Caribbean." Depp, who stars as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Disney franchise has been shooting on the Gold Coast tourist strip in Australia’s east.

Just because he’s Johnny Depp does not mean he’s exempt from Australian law.
