'Your room is ready': Sheriff turns to social media to catch robbery suspect

The sheriff of Butler County, Ohio, called out Andrew Dale Marcum, a 21-year-old suspect wanted for burglary, abduction, assault and domestic violence, hoping for tips. Among the hundreds of people who responded to the post on Monday with comments (some very nasty), Marcum himself weighed in. “I ain’t tripping half of them don’t even know me,” Marcum wrote from his Facebook account. The sheriff’s office kept the social media dialogue going, responding to Marcum’s comment, “If you could stop by the Sheriff’s Office, that’d be great.” Sheriff Richard K. Jones also tweeted out a photo of jail cell to Marcum.

Hey Andrew Marcum we’ve got your room ready …

Later Monday, Marcum relented and turned himself in to authorities. Closing the social media loop, the sheriff’s office posted a follow-up entry on Facebook and Twitter with a mugshot of very gloom-looking Marcum — further evidence that the long arm of the law now has digital fingertips.

Andrew Dale Marcum will be off Facebook temporarily, because there is no social media access in the Butler County Jail. He’s turned himself in.
